Areas of Expertise:
Mr. Roberts is a Principal Engineer and the founder of Roberts Forensic. He has over fifteen years of experience in crash reconstruction and forensic engineering. He has over 450 hours of classroom training in crash reconstruction. He has investigated and reconstructed over 400 crashes.
Mr. Roberts performs crash reconstruction and forensic engineering analysis for clients nationwide. He is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states throughout the Western United States. He has provided expert witness testimony in depositions and trials in numerous legal jurisdictions.
EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
Reconstruction of crashes involving passenger vehicles, tractor-trailers, motorcycles, scooters, ATV’s, snowmobiles, pedestrians, forklifts, heavy equipment, farm implements, buses, and bicycles.
His experience also includes imaging and interpreting data from heavy truck and passenger vehicle event data recorders (EDRs). He has experience imaging data from heavy truck ECU modules, including Bendix, Detroit, Caterpillar, Cummins, International, Paccar, and WABCO. He has performed hundreds of event data recorder downloads on heavy trucks.
He is a certified Bosch CDR technician and analyst and has imaged and analyzed data from hundreds of passenger vehicle airbag modules. His expertise includes the use of computer-aided simulations and animations for accident reconstruction. He is experienced in the use of 3D laser scanners and UAS/drones for documentation and analysis of vehicular accidents.
He is a licensed motorcycle rider with extensive experience riding on and off-highway motorcycles. He has been riding motorcycles since the age of 8. He is experienced in motorcycle reconstruction, including inspection and documentation, motorcycle handling characteristics, motorcycle braking, motorcycle speed analysis, and motorcycle rider strategies and techniques.
Mr. Roberts also performs accident and failure analysis of mechanical systems and components, including heavy equipment, construction equipment, hydraulic systems, steering systems, braking systems, un-intended acceleration, lift gates, bearings, wheel-off failures, forklifts, truck cranes, mechanical pumps, conveyor systems, machine guarding, automatic door mechanisms, pressurized plumbing systems, boilers, furnaces, trailer connections, power tools, machinery, aerial lifts, and appliances. He performs research regarding product standards and product testing.
He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists (NAPARS).
